Ha Giang (VNA) – A ceremony was held at Vi Xuyen National Martyrs’ Cemetery in the northern mountainous province of Ha Giang on January 22 to rebury the remains of 11 martyrs who laid down their lives to safeguard the northern border.

Colonel Nguyen An Phong, Political Commissar of the provincial Military High Command, said that after an extended period of searching, the province’s search team gathered the remains of 11 unknown martyrs in the villages of Nam Ngat and Giang Nam, of Thanh Thuy commune, Vi Xuyen district.

They include officials and soldiers from around the nation who stood side-by-side with Ha Giang’s army and local people in resolvedly protecting the national territory in the northern border defence war in 1979.

They will be remembered for devoting their whole lives for the cause of national independence and freedom.–VNA
