At the ceremony (Source: dantri.com.vn) Hanoi (VNA) - A ceremony was held at Noi Bai International Airportin the capital city of Hanoi on December 13 to repatriate remains of USservicemen who died during the war in Vietnam.
Representatives from the Board of Directors ofVietnam Office for Seeking Missing Personnel (VNOSMP) were present at theceremony. On the US side there were Vice Ambassador of the US to Vietnam CarynMcClelland, the Military Attaché of the US Embassy in Hanoi, and representativesof the Defence POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) and the US MIA Office in Hanoi.
The Vietnamese side handed over to the US side fourboxes of remains that were recovered in Dien Bien, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, and QuangNinh during the 129th Joint Field Activities from October to December2017.
The remains had been jointly reviewed andconcluded by Vietnam and US forensic specialists that they might be associatedwith the US servicemen missing during the war in Vietnam and were recommendedto bring to Hawaii, the US, for further review.
Addressing the ceremony, the US Governmentrepresentative expressed deep gratitude and appreciation for the steadfasthumanitarian policy, good-will and the efficient cooperation of the Governmentand people of Vietnam.
The search for remains of US servicemen missingduring the war in Vietnam is humanitarian cooperation between the Governmentsof Vietnam and the US.
This is the 142nd hand-over of missing American servicemen’sremains since 1973.
This yearVietnam and the US have conducted four joint field activities, resulting in thediscovery and repatriation of nine sets of remains, three of which were foundby the Vietnamese side. -VNA
