to Vietnamese music this year will be held at Hanoi ’s Opera House
early next month.

to Vietnamese music this year will be held at Hanoi ’s Opera House
early next month.
Titled “Music Contribution Prize”, the awards are aimed at recognising the best singers, musicians, albums, shows and programmes from 2009.
Nominees have been selected by around 100 journalists, who specialise in culture and music.
The Vietnam News Agency’s The Thao&Van Hoa (Sports&Culture) daily and Le Bros Company have coorganised this fifth annual awards ceremony.
Following are the nominees for the Music Contribution Prize 2009.
Album of the Year:
1. Music of the Night (by singer Duc Tuan)
2. Mu Tat (Mustard) (Tinna Tinh)
3. Noi Binh Yen (A Peaceful Place) (Thanh Lam)
4. Saigon Radio (Ha Anh Tuan)
Programme of the Year:
1. Vietnamese Songs (by Viet Nam Television’s VTV3 channel)
2. Dieu Con Mai (What Remains Forever) (VietnamNet)
3. Music of the Night (Duc Tuan)
4. Nguoi Tinh (Lover) (Dam Vinh Hung)
Musician of the Year:
1. Ho Hoai Anh
2. Le Minh Son
3. Thanh Tam
4. Tinna Tinh
Singer of the Year:
1. Thanh Lam
2. Cam Ly
3. Ha Anh Tuan
4. Duc Tuan
Last year, My Tam was named Singer of the Year, Do Bao was awarded the Musician of the Year titled Canh Cung 2-Thoi Gian De Yeu (Bow 2-Time for Love) by musician Do Bao was selected as Album of the Year and Vietnamese Songs won Programme of the Year./.

Making palm-leaf conical hats is a traditional craft of the Tay ethnic people in Bac Ha district in northern mountainous Lao Cai province. Woven from wild palm leaves, the hats are dried and skilfully crafted into their distinctive conical shape. As well as protecting wearers from sun and rain, the hats are also part of the traditional outfit of local women.
