The Republic of Korea (RoK) jumped up two places, to become the world’s 10 th biggest exporter despite the global economic downturn.

The RoK exported nearly 104.9 billion USD, displacing Canada, in the first four months of this year, according to the Ministry of Knowledge Economy’s statistics.

The country’s overseas shipments in the January-April period shrank 23.6 percent year-on-year, but the combined exports of the top 15 countries retreated 30.6 percent.

The result was attributed to drastic measures taken by the country’s companies to minimise the impact of the crisis on production and business expansion and to seek newer, more competitive products.

Germany is the world’s largest exporter with a total turnover of 342 billion USD. It is followed by China with 337.4 billion USD; the United States , 329.4 billion USD; and Japan, 161.8 billion USD./.
