Republic of Korea resumes aid for DPRK
The RoK’s Red Cross said on Sept. 26 that it
will send 5,000 tonnes of rice and other necessities in aid to the
Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in late October.

will send 5,000 tonnes of rice and other necessities in aid to the
Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) in late October.
This will be the RoK government’s first official aid package since Lee Myung-back took office as President in February 2008.
The RoK government will approve an aid package worth 8 billion won (7 million USD) on September 28 for the DPRK in the context that recent heavy rains have caused serious damages for its northwestern border region.
The RoK’s aid ship will depart from Inchon port on October 25 and anchor at China's Dandong port before transporting goods to the DPRK’s border province of Sinuiji.
The Red Cross said it would also ship 10,000 tonnes of cement to help rebuild flood-damaged homes plus three million packs of instant noodles and medicines.
Before President Lee Myung-bak came into power in 2008, Seoul had annually provided 400,000 tonnes of rice and 300,000 tonnes of fetiliser for Pyongyang./.
