The Research Centre for Applied Mathematics in Economics, Finance and Banking was launched in Hanoi on January 12 by the Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM) and the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV).

The centre was designed to help the institute pilot mathematical models for sustainable socio-economic development and to assist in realising targets of the national key programmes for math, science, and technology development strategies through 2020, said Professor Ngo Bao Chau, Director of the VIASM.

Its operational scale includes studying and developing scientific and technological services to apply mathematics in economics, finance, and banking for domestic and international individuals and organisations, he noted.

The VIASM and the BIDV signed a cooperation agreement in building and developing the applied mathematics research programme across these fields.

Accordingly, the two sides will work together to implement research projects, training programmes, and seminars, ultimately aiming to create globally competitive commercial products.

The BIDV pledged to provide financial support, material facilities, and human resources to serve the centre’s operation.

Similar research centres are located in Ho Chi Minh City and Quy Nhon city of central Binh Dinh province.-VNA
