Customs officers at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City found five kilos of rhino horns hidden in suitcase of a Vietnamese passenger when he arrived in on May 20.
The passenger, 31, flew on the national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines’ flight VN100, which departed from a European country.
In Vietnam , trade, export and import of specimens of rhino and several other wild animals are banned.
The trade of rhino horns is specifically illegal under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna (CITES).
The HCM City Customs Department is conducting further investigation on the case.-VNA
