The southern province of Dong Nai has required insurance companies to quicken compensation for businesses affected by social disturbances occurred in May and complete the work before July 30.

Phan Thi My Thanh, Vice Chairwoman of the provincial People’s Committee, on July 24 said the province has asked tax, finance and environment agencies to rapidly identify tax, land rent and infrastructure fee exemption or reduction for the businesses.

The assessment of economic damage suffered by the businesses accomplished on July 18, according to Thanh.

By mid-July, the provincial tax department refunded taxes worth nearly 216 billion VND to 44 businesses while insurance companies advanced over 39 billion VND for 35 businesses.

The disturbances erupted on May 13-14 in central Ha Tinh and southern Binh Duong and Dong Nai provinces, during workers’ rallies against China’s illegal dispatch of its oil rig Haiyang Shiyou – 981 in Vietnam’s continental shelf and exclusive economic zone.

Some extremists incited others to destroy the property of foreign firms, the State, and private domestic businesses, and acted against law enforcement officials, disrupting social order and business activities. Thanks to the Government’s timely interference, affected companies have returned to work and social order and security has been restored.

Several rioters in Dong Nai were brought to trial and sent to prison with the heaviest serving eight months.-VNA
