Short-distance runner Nguyen Thi Huyen is the only Vietnamese athlete to compete at the 15th Athletics World Championships 2015.

The 22-year-old girl will compete in her favourite events, the women's 400m and 400m hurdles.

Qualifying for the event made Huyen the second Vietnamese runner to compete at a world athletics tournament.

It is a deserved reward for Huyen, who rose to instant fame at the Southeast Asian Games 2015 in Singapore, winning three gold medals and setting new Games records.

In 2011, Truong Thanh Hang became the first Vietnamese to compete at the competition but she failed to go through to the final in the women’s 800m event.

The championship this year will take place at Beijing, China, from August 22-30.-VNA
