Minh City to the coastal district of Can Gio, to traffic.
Addressing the ceremony, President Triet stressed the special significance of the Rung Sac road for the development of HCM City as well as for Can Gio district, thus contributing to improving the residents’ living conditions.
He urged the municipal authorities to continue investment in infrastructure in the coastal district, including construction of Binh Khanh bridge.
The President noted that the city should select a suitable development model for the district, focusing on eco-tourism and a marine-based economy in accordance with sustainable economic development and maintaining the protection of the forest and the Can Gio biosphere reserve.
Being HCM city’s strategic gateway to the East Sea , the road will contribute to socio-economic development and ensuring national defence and security for the city’s poorest district of Can Gio.
The project to upgrade and expand the Rung Sac road to six lanes has a total investment of 1.42 trillion VND. The 31 km section is expected to be completed later this year.
In phase I, the road is to be upgraded with three lanes.
Also under the project, eight bridges on the road are being built at a total cost of nearly 500 billion VND.
On the same day, President Triet attended a groundbreaking ceremony for a clean water supply system for Can Gio district.
The project will be carried out in two phases with a total investment of 882 billion VND. It has a total length of 70 km linking the Thu Duc water supply plant to Can Gio.
In phase I, the system is designed to meet daily water use of 44,000 cu.m a day for the whole district by 2015. As planned, this capacity will double by 2025./.
