The final round of the 2015 Robocon Vietnam contest kicked off in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on May 12, drawing 32 teams from universities and junior colleges nationwide to compete.

Themed “Robominton: Badminton Robo-Game”, the event is highly challenging in both technology and competition.

Pham Phi Thuong, Deputy Head of Robocon 2015’s organising board, said this year’s contest expects a number of breakthroughs in scientific application.

Reigning champion Lac Hong University has three teams entering the final round, widely considered strong contenders.

The teams from the Hanoi Junior College of Electronics and Refrigeration, the Hanoi Electromechanical and Food Technology Vocational Training College, and the Hanoi Electromechanical Vocational Training College have also proved to be worthy adversaries, he noted, adding that this is the first time they have competed at a Robocon contest.

The 2015 Robocon Vietnam is the 14 th of its kind held in the country. The winner will receive 50 million VND (2,380 USD) in cash and join the Asia-Pacific Robot Contest (ABU Robocon) slated for August 21-25 in Indonesia.-VNA
