HCM City (VNA) – The Ho Chi Minh City-based Binh Dan Hospital successfully carried out robotic operations for 222 cancer patients in its first year of applying the technology for adults.

The information was released by director of the hospital Tran Vinh Hung at a ceremony marking the one-year anniversary held on October 28.

In his speech, Hung said most of the cases were related to prostate and colorectal cancer, and about 60 patients with disadvantaged background received reduced or zero fees.

Binh Dan Hospital has to date launched robotic surgeries across 14 diseases approved by the Health Ministry and sent 14 surgical groups to be trained overseas for international certification.

On the occasion, the hospital and director Tran Vinh Hung was awarded the Labour Order, third class.

Vice Chairwoman of the HCM City People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Thu said thanks to the hospital’s efforts, patients can now access less expensive robotic surgeries in the city.

The technology helps reduce paint and speed up recovery, and guarantees better quality of life after operation, she added.

She urged the hospital to continue improving its performance in the field to treat more diseases and serve medical tourism demand in the future.-VNA
