Winning all gold medals in the men’s single, men’s team and women’s team events helped the squad from the Republic of Korea (RoK) secure the first place at the 29 th Golden Racket International Table Tennis Championship which took place at the Nguyen Du Gymnasium in Ho Chi Minh City from July 23-26.

The championship title in the men’s team event went to RoK team A after they beat their team B comrades 3-0. Meanwhile, female players pocketed the gold after defeating the Japanese team 3-1.

Thrashing Peng Bo from Guangxi (China) 4-1, Kim Gang Woog became the champion in the men’s single event. The RoK team also bagged a bronze medal in this event.

Zeng Jian from Singapore, who is standing at No. 62 in the International Table Tennis Federation ranking, went up against Li Tian from Guangxi 4-0 to win a gold in the women’s single category.

The host Vietnam took only one bronze medal from the men’s team event. Its player Tran Tuan Quynh had to stop at the quarterfinal after losing to champion Kim Gang Woog.

This tournament’s competitors included 85 players from Asian countries and territories, including India, Hong Kong (China), Japan, the RoK, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

The RoK team also won last year’s event with two gold, two silver and two bronze medals, followed by China’s Hong Kong with two gold medals and one bronze medal. This year’s second place was usurped by the Singaporean delegation.-VNA
