RoK experts propose project to turn Can Tho into city of happiness

A group of consultants from the Republic of Korea has presented to Can Tho city leaders a project touted as a bold initiative which will turn the Mekong Delta city into a city of happiness.
A group of consultants from the Republic of Korea has presented to CanTho city leaders a project touted as a bold initiative which will turnthe Mekong Delta city into a city of happiness.

Atthe March 13 working session with Can Tho officials, Kim Hak Min, Deanof the Industry-Academy Cooperation from the RoK’s Soon Chun HyangUniversity, said once the project, named “Hon ca dieu mong uoc” (Beyondexpectation), is completed, Can Tho will become a leadingindustrialised city in ASEAN.

Kim, who is also thespecial consultant to the city, said around 500ha of land is needed toconstruct a complex of industrial parks, a technology centre, andtourism, entertainment and residential areas, among others.

The project will be funded through assistance from the RoK Governmentand other countries, he noted, adding that consultants will help thecity design strategic policies attracting foreign investors and providethem with information on local human resources and investmentopportunities.

The Korean advisors suggested Can Thostrongly develop the railway system in addition to road and waterwaynetworks since a developed railway system will help cut down transportexpenses and attract more foreign investments.

AChinese construction company has expressed interest in building railwayslinking Can Tho with Ho Chi Minh City and Cambodia’s Siem Reap andPhnom Penh, Kim said.

At the working session,municipal officials appreciated the project and expressed theirwillingness to coordinate with the consultants to realise this idea.

They underscored that the project implementation must be in line thecity’s development orientations set by the Government. Meanwhile, theproposal on railway development will need further study.-VNA

Memorial service held for 731 fallen soldiers in Ho Chi Minh City

From June 23 to October 5, Team K74 and other forces recovered 731 sets of martyrs’ remains from the park. Biological samples and DNA samples collected from relatives of unidentified fallen soldiers are being analysed and stored in the national gene bank to support identification efforts.
