LG International Corp., a major importer of rice from the Republic of Korea (RoK), has said it wants to import rice from Vietnam.
The corp.’s representatives released the information during a recent meeting with Vietnamese rice exporters where they briefed on the RoK’s minimum market access (MMA) mechanism.
According to the RoK’s Association of Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the country will embark on this year’s plans to import rice as from May, mainly unpolished, broken and glutinous rice.
RoK importers said Vietnamese exporters would possibly face various tough requirements at first but they are willing to help them to overcome.
The Vietnam Food Association said the RoK is a potential, but demanding market, therefore domestic businesses would find it hard to satisfy its demands./.
