Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) in Seoul on Aug. 23.
This was the first meeting between the RoK President and DPRK’s high-level officials since he took office in February, 2008.
Kim Yang Gon, assistant to DPRK leader Kim Jong Il, who is also in charge of inter-Korean affairs, was among President Lee Myung-bak’s guests.
According to RoK news agency, Yonhap, the meeting was made upon the request of the DPRK delegation, which conveyed a message of leader Kim Jong Il to President Lee Myung-bak.
The DPRK delegation arrived in Seoul on Aug. 21 to attend the funeral of RoK former President Kim Dae-jung, who died on Aug. 19./.
