Now is the opportune time to begin a new era on the Korean Peninsula and the Republic of Korea (RoK) is ready to engage in dialogue with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) at anytime with an open mind.
RoK President Lee Myung-bak made the remark while delivering a speech marking the 92 nd anniversary of the March First 1919 Independence Movement against Japanese colonial rule in Seoul .
In his speech, Lee urged the DPRK to join with the new drive for peace and prosperity in Northeast Asia .
Pyongyang should begin move towards genuine reconciliation, dialogue and cooperation and take responsibility for its actions, he said.
The RoK President also urged Pyongyang to acknowledge its part in the matters that caused tension between the two countries.
Inter-Korean relations have become tense following the sinking of the RoK warship the Cheonan in March last year and the DPRK shelling Yeonpyeong Island in November 2010./.
