The Korean Cultural Centre in Vietnam and the Vietnam Women Union have jointly carried out the first-ever charitable programme targeting orphans in Hanoi and lepers in northern Hai Duong province.

Joining the programme, five social welfare organisations of the Republic of Korea, including the Daejeon Metropolitan City Social Welfare Association and the Vision Korea, presented 35 bicycles, clothes and learning tools to children living at the Ha Cau Orphan Centre in Hanoi’s outlying Ha Dong district.

In Chi Linh district, Hai Duong province, they provided 35 families with lepers with one fan and 10kg of rice each and five other poor households with young cows.

Within the framework of the programme, cultural exchanges between the two countries will be held and the interests of Vietnamese brides in the Republic of Korea will be paid due attention, according to the Korean Cultural Centre in Vietnam.

The Centre Director Park Nark Jong said the centre will invite more RoK social organisations to Vietnam to join in charitable activities to improve the living conditions of poor people in the country.-VNA
