From May 2014, the Hanyang University (HYU) of the Republic of Korea (RoK) will send its top experts to Vietnam to train Vietnamese nuclear power personnel, starting at Da Lat University in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong.

At a seminar in Da Lat city on February 19, Professor Kim Si Hwan said HYU is now, together with the Korean Nuclear Association for International Cooperation (KNA), conducting several projects to train and develop nuclear power staff for Vietnam, in line with the bilateral cooperation agreement between the two countries. Vietnamese learners will later be invited to the RoK for refresher courses.

Necessary equipment will also be provided by the university to set up laboratories where students can practicse and conduct research in the field of nuclear power.

In the short term, Da Lat University will receive a model of a nuclear reactor and many training materials in the English language.

Rector of Da Lat university Nguyen Duc Hoa expressed his belief that, with the assistance of the RoK side, it will succeed in training many high quality workers serving the national nuclear power programme as well as its application for peaceful purposes.

Da Lat University is among six institutions nationwide training in nuclear power. It has also collaborated with other RoK partners, including the Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Co. Ltd and Seoul National University (SNU) in the field.-VNA
