Unemployment in the Republic of Korea came in at 3.4 percent in September, its lowest level since December last year and down by 3.7 percent from the previous month, according to a report on October 14 by the RoK’s National Statistics Office (NSO).

The number of employed people totaled 23.8 million in September, up by 71,000 persons compared to the same period last year, the report stated.

The increase in job opportunities was partly attributed to the government's efforts to create jobs in the public sector while the upturn in exports also boosted employment in the manufacturing sector, said an official from the NSO.

RoK’s job market faced severe difficulties in May due to job losses of 219,000 people, its highest number for the last ten years./.
