The Republic of Korea (RoK) wishes to further strengthen its relations with Vietnam on the basis of their strategic cooperation partnership, said RoK Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se during talks with his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Binh Minh.

At the talks on the sidelines of the fourth Mekong-RoK ministerial meeting in Seoul on July 29, both said they are delighted at the rapid and strong development of bilateral ties, especially since the strategic cooperation partnership was set up in October 2009.

Minh, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, affirmed that Vietnam treasures and wants to work together with the RoK to deepen their relations, for the interests of their people and for common prosperity in the region.

The two sides discussed measures to effectively implement signed agreements, including increasing delegation exchanges and promoting investment-trade cooperation and people-to-people exchange.

They also agreed to coordinate closely at multilateral forums, for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

Minh proposed that the RoK side help to reduce the number of Vietnamese workers who do not return home after their work contracts expire.

The two sides should work together towards the signing of an ordinary memorandum of understanding on a work permit license programme for overseas workers, he added.-VNA
