Themed “Me Linh with Flowers’ Brilliance”, this is a highlight event in a series of welcome activities of the district, which won the new rural status and received a third-class Labour Order. Currently, the district’s total flower-growing area is approximately 2,000 hectares. Me Linh district supplies various kinds of fresh flower to the market. Flower fields featuring violet, gladiolus, mimosa, rose, chrysanthemum, daisy, lily and peach blossom have brought new colours for villages in Me Linh, Dai Thinh, Thanh Lam, Van Khe and Kim Hoa communes. In preparation for the upcoming flower festival, growers placed more than 1,000 pots of roses, chrysanthemums, and sunflowers along the entrance to the temple. The temple was built to worship the two Trung Sisters (14 AD - 43 AD), who are considered the first heroines of the Vietnamese people, according to Nguyen Trong Phan, head of Me Linh district’s Economic Division. Pham Duc Tai, owner of the Tai Ly garden in Hamlet 3, Me Linh commune, says that he has planted various breeds of flowers, with more than 200 kinds of rose, in his garden. There are garden petunias, chrysanthemum, daisy, gerbera, and penony in his garden, all are ready for display at the upcoming flower festival. A ceremony will be held to receive the certificate recognising the temple dedicated to the two Trung Sisters (14 AD - 43 AD) as a special national relic site. After their victory against Chinese invaders in 43 AD, the older Trung Trac came to throne and proclaimed the area the capital of Linh Nam State (early name of Vietnam). Their revolution was the first armed revolution of the Vietnamese people, which overthrew Chinese domination. The two sisters are considered the first heroines of the Vietnamese people. Every year, the Hai Ba Trung Temple hosts a festival on 4-10th of first lunar month, the same days the two sisters gathered their troops.
