A running race for underprivileged children in Vietnam will be held around the Thien Quang Lake, Hanoi, on Nov. 22, the Canadian Embassy in Hanoi announced at a press briefing on Sept. 30.

Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam , Deanna Horton, said the race, initiated by the “Terry Fox” race in 2000, is a continuation of the cooperation among the co-organising agencies, including the Hanoi Federation of Friendship Organisations, the Vietnam-Canada Friendship Organisation and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.

According to her, all the money raised from the race will be sent to the Hanoi Heart Hospital, the Central Paediatrics Hospital and the Heart Beat Vietnam Fund to help poor children with cancer and heart diseases in Vietnam.

Since 2000, the “Terry Fox” races in Hanoi have attracted 37,000 participants and collected 2.2 billion VND for research on cancer in Vietnam .

In 2008 alone, 7,000 racers took part in the race and raised more than 500 million VND./.
