Hanoi (VNA) — Hanoi Run for Children 2016 will take place in the Thong Nhat Park, Hanoi from 7:00 am on December 11 to raise funds for the treatment of disadvantaged children with cancer and heart disease.

The annual event is jointly organised by the Vietnam-Canada Friendship Association, the Hanoi Union of Friendship Organisations, the Embassy of Canada and sponsors.

Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam Ping Kinikone highlighted the significance of the event saying that it aims to join hands to help disadvantaged children while consolidating the bilateral ties between Vietnam and Canada.

She pledged that the Embassy will continue supporting Vietnam’s community-oriented prorgrammes and initiatives.

Echoing the Ambassador’s opinion, Nguyen Thi Hoi, Vice President of the Vietnam-Canada Friendship Association said the event is a people-to-people diplomacy activity, representing the friendship between the two nations as well as between Vietnamese people and international friends.

The run raises about 1 billion VND (44,000 USD) each year, benefiting more than 300 needy children to date, she added.

The money raised from the event will be donated to the Heart Beat Vietnam programme, patients at the Vietnam National Hospital of Peadiatrics and Hanoi Heart Hospital.

Several celebrities are scheduled to take part in this year’s run, including People’s Artist Le Khanh, football player Hoang Vu Samson, Miss Vietnam 2016 Do My Linh, and actor Phan Anh./.
