Vocational training for rural people must be coupled with job creation to increase their opportunities to escape from poverty, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan has said.

To support the work, localities nationwide should establish steering boards on vocational training for rural laborers right at the grassroots levels, Nhan said at a televised programme in Hanoi on April 3 to review the Project "Vocational training for rural workers until 2020".

He suggested posting a specialist in charge of the issue in every district People’s Committee office, citing the efficiency of municipal and provincial steering boards and vocational training centers in helping millions of rural workers get trained and land jobs.

The project "Vocational training for rural workers until 2020”, which was approved by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on November 27, 2009, targets to provide vocational training to about 1 million rural workers a year on average.

It has also set to train and enhance capacity building for 100,000 commune public servants a year.-VNA
