Russia seeks deeper ties with ASEAN

Russia is keen on beefing up cooperation with all institutions in the Asia-Pacific region, including the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) that plays the leading role there, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Meeting ASEANSecretary-General Le Luong Minh in Moscow on July 1, Lavrov said theregion is a priority in his country’s foreign policy.

All leading cooperation mechanisms in the region have been created with ASEAN’ systemically important assistance, he said.

For his part, the ASEAN leader spoke highly Russia’s contributionsto ASEAN cooperation, adding that he hopes the partnership between thetwo sides will further develop.

During his visit,Secretary-General Minh is scheduled to meet members of the RussianGovernment, including Economic Development Minister Vladimir Puchkov.

He is also to meet representatives from Russia’sChamber of Commerce and Industry and the State Duma (lower house) andSecretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation DmitryMezentsev.-VNA

Indian airline launches direct Mumbai–Hanoi route
