Russia is keen on beefing up cooperation with all institutions in the Asia-Pacific region, including the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) that plays the leading role there, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Meeting ASEAN Secretary-General Le Luong Minh in Moscow on July 1, Lavrov said the region is a priority in his country’s foreign policy.

All leading cooperation mechanisms in the region have been created with ASEAN’ systemically important assistance, he said.

For his part, the ASEAN leader spoke highly Russia’s contributions to ASEAN cooperation, adding that he hopes the partnership between the two sides will further develop.

During his visit, Secretary-General Minh is scheduled to meet members of the Russian Government, including Economic Development Minister Vladimir Puchkov.

He is also to meet representatives from Russia’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the State Duma (lower house) and Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Dmitry Mezentsev.-VNA
