Russian Minister of Defence Sergei Shoygu on March 4 began his two-day visit to Vietnam at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart, General Phung Quang Thanh.

This is Shoygu’s first working visit to Vietnam since he took up the ministerial position last November.

The visit is expected to help enhance the existing friendship between Vietnam and Russia and promote cooperation in military engineering, thereby boosting further defence relations between the two countries.

During his stay, Shoygu will lay a wreath at the Monument to Heroes and Martyrs and pay tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum in Hanoi.

He will hold talks with his Vietnamese counterpart Phung Quang Thanh and pay a courtesy visit to President Truong Tan Sang.

He also plans to visit the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Centre and the Naval Zone 4.-VNA
