Russian parliamentarians highlight thriving Vietnam-Russia ties

Moscow (VNA) – Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Ngo Duc Manh had a workingsession on February 21 with the Russia-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians’Group at the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.

At the working session, Leonid Kalashnikov, a member of the State Duma, expressedhis delight at the continuous development of the friendship and solidaritybetween Vietnam and Russia.

Vietnam is the only Southeast Asian nation Russian President Vladimir Putin hasvisited five times, he highlighted.

Since 1991, Vietnam and Russia have signed over 80 cooperation documents,including the treaty on basic principles for the bilateral friendship, LeonidKalashnikov noted.

The bilateral legislative ties have also developed strongly, he said, stressingthat the Vietnam National Assembly is one of Russia’s most trustworthy partnersat regional and international forums, especially the Asia-Pacific ParliamentaryForum.

Echoing Leonid Kalashnikov’s views, Gennady Bezdetko from the Russian Ministryof Foreign Affairs highlighted the comprehensive strategic partnership betweenthe two countries.

Vietnam and Russia will mark the 70th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic tiesin 2020 and 25 years since the signing of the the friendship principles treatyin June this year.

The bilateral relationship has developed across many spheres, from politics, economy,and investment to national defence and education, he said.  

For his part, Ambassador Manh said the two countries boast substantialpotential for cooperation and urged them to work harder to optimise thepotential.

He called on the friendship parliamentarians’ group and the Vietnamese Embassyin Russia to seek a coordination mechanism in promoting and implementingcollaboration contents.

The diplomat voiced his hope that the group and its members will carry forwardtheir role in supervising the implementation of the signed agreements, while creatingfavourable conditions for Vietnamese people to integrate better into the hostcountry. –VNA
