Russian translator Inna Zimonina has been awarded an insignia “For the cause of Vietnam’s literature” for popularising works of Vietnamese literature to Russian readers.

The distinction was presented by translator Hoang Thuy Toan, Director of the Vietnam–Russia Literature Fund, on behalf of the Chairman of Vietnam Writers’ Association and Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations Huu Thinh, in Moscow on December 12.

Speaking at the event, Toan highlighted Zimonina’s ceaseless efforts to raise mutual understanding between the two peoples and tighten friendship between the two nations.

Zimonina embarked on translation when she became fond of Vietnamese literature in the 1960s during her schooling. She was also honoured with a Friendship Order from the Vietnamese State in 1982.

Numerous works by popular Vietnamese writers introduced to Soviet and Russian literature enthusiasts include “Dau chan nguoi linh” (Soldiers’ footsteps), “Mua la rung trong vuon” (Garden in the season of falling leaves), “Gap go cuoi nam” (Meeting in the end of the year) and others by Thach Lam, To Hoai and Thanh Giao.-VNA
