Search and rescue workers have found two big parts of ill-fated AirAsia Flight QZ8501 which crashed into the Java Sea, Indonesia, on December 28 with 162 people on board, en route from Surabaya to Singapore.
The objects measuring about 7-10 metres in length were discovered at the depth of 30 metres of the sea off the Borneo island on January 2, Indonesian chief of the operation Bambang Soelistyo said on January 3.
The search and rescue teams are lowering a remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV) to get an actual picture of the objects; however, the strong current is hampering the efforts, he added.
In another development, the Indonesia’s Ministry of Transport decided to frozen the airline’s permission to fly the Surabaya – Singapore route from January 2 because the plane violated the given schedule.
The permit for the route will be suspended until investigations are completed, according to the ministry.
So far 30 bodies have been found in the search.-VNA
