Machinists of the Lilama 10 Jsc company on Jan. 16 installed successfully a rotor into the second turbine of the Son La Hydro-electric Plant in the northern mountainous province of Son La.
The rotor measures 15.589 metres in diameter, 2.816 metres in height and weighs over 1,000 tonnes.
Nguyen The Trinh, director of Lilama 10 company said that the successful installation of second turbine would ensure electricity supply during the dry season and control floods in the rainy season.
The second turbine is expected to generate electricity on April, 30.
Construction of the 37 trillion VND hydropower plant started in December 2005. It is designed to have six turbine groups with a combined capacity of 2,400 MW.
Once it swings into full operation in 2012, the Son La power plant will be the largest in Southeast Asia, generating 10.2 billion kWh a year./.
