Singapore-based Sembcorp will invest in a 1,200ha township and industrial park in the northern port city of Hai Phong , a company executive has said.

Low Sin Leng, Executive Chair of Sembcorp Industrial Parks, was cited by the Sai Gon Giai Phong (Sai Gon Liberation) daily as saying that Sembcorp would continue boosting investment in Vietnam despite the global economic downturn.

She said that Sembcorp has licensed to invest in 600ha of the total 1,600ha of the project and it plans to conduct site clearance and build infrastructure on 120 ha this year.

Low Sin Leng further said that after completion of infrastructure on the first 120ha, Sembcorp will open a campaign to attract investment in the township and industrial park, while expanding it to 1,600ha as planned.

The area is expected to be completed in 2020 with an estimated capital of 1 billion USD.

The group is now working on the expansion of the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park 1 and 2 in southern Binh Duong province and the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park in northern Bac Ninh province./.
