A seminar discussing social welfares for migrants affected by natural disasters and climate change and ASEAN countries’ experiences was held in Hanoi on July 20.
A seminar discussing social welfares for migrants affected by naturaldisasters and climate change and ASEAN countries’ experiences was heldin Hanoi on July 20.

The seminar,co-organised by the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairsand the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), drew theparticipation of more than 100 representatives from policymaking andscientific research agencies, international organisations andnon-governmental organisations of Vietnam and other ASEAN countries.

As an activity on the sidelines of the 3 rdASEAN Forum on Migrant Workers, the seminar aimed to seek measures tosupport migrants stricken by the impacts of natural disasters andclimate change.

It was also designed to raisepublic awareness of increasing social welfares for vulnerable groups,especially those affected by natural disasters and climate change,helping realise ASEAN countries’ priority in coping with globalchallenges, especially climate change.

Theparticipants agreed that social welfares for the group of migrantsaffected by natural disasters and climate change is one of thepriorities on the agenda of the ASEAN Social and Cultural Council (ASCC)in 2010 as ASEAN in general and Vietnam in particular is the hardesthit by these problems.

They emphasised on measuresto strengthen cooperation among ASEAN nations in building policies andproviding social welfare services as well as share information andexperiences in implementing social welfare policies and programmes forclimate change-affected migrants in regional countries.

The ASEAN leaders approved a statement on joint response to climatechange in April 2010./.

The dispatch states that in implementing Conclusion No. 18-KL/TW dated April 2, 2026 of the 14th Party Central Committee on the 2026–2030 socio-economic development plan, national finance, public debt management and medium-term public investment, linked to the goal of achieving double-digit economic growth, the Government on April 29 issued 11 resolutions on cutting, decentralising and simplifying administrative procedures, business conditions, and conditional business lines. The Prime Minister subsequently directed ministries, agencies and localities to implement these resolutions.

Vietnamese, Angolan foreign ministers hold talks in Hanoi
