A seminar highlighting the Vietnam-Republic of Korea strategic partnership took place in Hanoi on Dec. 21, in the lead up to the 20th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2012.

The seminar reviewed the successes of the bilateral relations over the past two decades and put forward proposals and measures to deepen the strategic partnership for peace, prosperity and close connectivity of the East Asia community.

Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, Director of the Vietnam Diplomatic Academy, said the region and the world have experienced complicated developments since Vietnam and the Republic of Korea established strategic partnership in 2009.

Beside traditional security challenges, the world is facing new challenges such as food, energy, water source and maritime security and climate change, he said.

The situation forces the two countries to boost cooperation in political, economic and cultural diplomacy, in order to deepen their relationship and fully tap their development potential, Quy added.

The seminar focused discussions on issues relating to the Vietnam-RoK strategic partnership in the process of regional connectivity, Mekong sub-region cooperation, ASEAN connectivity and East Asia community./.
