HCM City (VNA) – Consumption trends in the food and beverage industry in Asia and the world at large were the main topic of a seminar held by the Business Association of High-Quality Vietnamese Products in Hanoi on June 20.

Vu Kim Hanh, Chairwoman of the association, said Vietnamese businesses participated in Sial China 2019 – the largest food and beverage expo in Asia – from May 14-16, and Thaifex 2019 – a food and beverage trade show in Bangkok, Thailand, from May 28 to June 1.

The two exhibitions showed that new products have formed the new trend of the food and beverage industry in Asia and the world as well, she said.

Many multi-national companies and big groups in the sector are using new technologies to create environmental friendly products, contributing to easing waste.

Consumers are paying more attention to nutrition in products, which is one of the reasons that have prompted startups in the industry to step up their production and improve their competiveness.

More startups have invested in food and beverages of local origin in order to satisfy the taste of young consumers, she said.

Regarding export activities, Nguyen Lam Vien, General Director of Vinamit JSC that specialises in dried fruits, suggested enterprises sell their products through modern retail channels and distribution networks to access foreign markets and consumers.

He took the Chinese market as an example that accommodates more than 10,000 supermarkets, 50 retail platforms and 50,000 convenient stores.

According to Ngo Dinh Dung, a market expert, food and beverage startup ecosystems have been established in many countries to develop dietary food.

Such ecosystems will help small-and medium-sized enterprises further their reach in the international market sustainably, he said, stressing products that meet requirements of packaging, food safety and hygiene, origin and logistics will win the heart of global consumers.-VNA
