National Assembly Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu hailed the southern province of Tra Vinh ’s preparations for the elections to the 13 th National Assembly and the People’s Council for the 2011-2016 period.

Luu led a delegation from the NA Standing Committee to inspect the province’s election preparatory work on March 9.

He was reported that as by March 8, Tra Vinh has already placed 3,934 people in units serving the elections at all provincial, district and communal levels.

They included 624 working for the election steering boards, 1,290 others for the election committees, and 2,020 aides for the election committees.

The first consultation conference in the province introduced 12 candidates for the 13 th National Assembly, 88 candidates for the provincial People’s Council, 495 others for the district People’s Council, and 4,279 for communal and ward People’s Council.

The NA Vice Chairman asked the provincial authorities to mobilise the entire local political system in publicising the elections as it was the key task of the entire Party, the entire people and the entire army in 2011.

As the elections were due to be the country’s big political event where the people would promote their right to democracy, they must be organised in a democratic, fair, law-abiding, safe and economic manner, Luu said.

He underlined the need for Tra Vinh to address the local people’s petitions and denunciations well in line with laws and ensure security for these elections even before and after the organisation of the event./.
