A delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations headed by Chairman Hoang Binh Quan paid a visit to Cuba from Nov. 7-11.

On Nov. 9, the delegation had a working session with Abelardo Alvarez, Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee and Head of the Personnel Policy Department.

Both host and guest affirmed their determination to boost friendship, solidarity and cooperation between the two countries.

Quan spoke highly of Cuba ’s achievements over the past 50 years despite the US embargo and natural disasters. He expressed his belief that the Cuban people would overcome all challenges and obtain greater successes in building socialism.

Abelardo Alvarez described Vietnam ’s achievements in national renewal as good experiences for Cuba in building its own socialist economic model in the coming period and thanked Vietnam for its solidarity and firm support to Cuba .

Earlier, Quan held talks with Jorge Marti, Head of the CPC Central Committee’s External Relations Commission.

The two sides worked out measures to boost bilateral relations and cooperation and signed a cooperation plan for the 2009-2013 period.

The Vietnamese Party official also had working sessions with Deputy President of the Ministerial Council Ricardo Cabrisas, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, President of the Cuban Institute for Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) Kenia Serrano.

The Vietnamese delegation laid a wreath at the President Ho Chi Minh statue in Cuba and visited a school named after Vietnam ’s war hero Nguyen Van Troi./.
