A seminar in Hanoi on August 3 provided valuable orientation for trade unions on their role in the Vietnamese service industry during its integration into the ASEAN economy.

The seminar was launched by the ASEAN Services Employees Trade Unions Council (ASETUC) and jointly held by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL), the Vietnam Post Trade Union and the Friedrich Ebert Institute (FES).

It touched upon topics on opportunities and challenges for the economic integration process and its impact on Vietnam ’s labourers.

The participants shared the view that labour issues are not only the Government’s responsibility but also an issue of mutual concern for employers, trade unions and relevant partners.

All concerned partners should work together to build a harmonious labour relationship during the economic integration, they said.

The seminar is expected to help raise awareness of Vietnamese trade unions about the ASEAN integration process and the role of trade unionists in building a sustainable and sharing ASEAN community./.
