The working groups’ seventh round of talks on the sea area beyond the mouth of the Gulf of Tokin and cooperation in less sensitive maritime issues between Vietnam and China took place in Hanoi from June 3-4.

The two sides exchanged opinions on demarcating the sea area off the Gulf of Tokin and promoting cooperation for mutual development in the waters in line with international laws, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

Technical experts discussed specific plans to conduct a joint survey of a 386sq.m section of the waters as agreed earlier.

Based on the results of the sixth round of talks, the two sides discussed and agreed to implement the cooperation agreement regarding two projects. The first relates to cooperation in exchange and research on sea and island environment management in the gulf between Vietnam and China. The second concerns geological research in the Red River Delta and the Yangtze River Delta.

The two sides also discussed cooperation in maritime search and rescue.-VNA
