The Shanghai World Expo 2010 officially opened to public on May 1, the first day of the six-month exposition.

About 500,000 entrance tickets had been sold out right on the opening day, organisers said.

The expo kicked off in the evening of April 30 and was marked by performances of world’s well-known artists, including Italian opera singer Andrea Bocelli, Hong Kong’s action movie actor Jackie Chan and Chinese piano prodigy Lang Lang.

Themed “ Better City , Better Life,” the expo, which draws the participation of 189 countries, focuses on the changes and potential of urban life in the 21 st century.

Vietnam’s stall at the expo, themed “1,000 years of Thang Long-Hanoi,” features Hanoi's symbolic construction works and includes an area showcasing items of the country’s three major ancient culture: Dong Son, Sa Huynh and Oc Eo.

It also comprises of areas promoting Vietnam’s cultural heritage with focus on Ha Long Bay, UNESCO recognised world’s natural heritage.

The exhibition is expected to attract 70 million visitors./.
