General Secretary of the Vietnam Association ofSeafood Exporters and Producers Truong Dinh Hoe told Vietnam Agriculturenewspaper that if the forecast is realised, shrimp will equal rice inexport value and outpace coffee and rubber.
Thefigure attained in this year’s first ten months alone broke the 2.4billion USD shrimp export record set in 2011, he added.
Hoe attributed the fact to price increases due to a sharp fall inglobal shrimp output caused by the early mortality syndrome in manycountries like Thailand, China and Malaysia.
Among the products, white-legged shrimp has seen high growth inproduction and value. As of the end of October, its shipment valueaccounted for 49 percent of all shrimp exports, while black tiger shrimpwas 44 percent.
Vietnam’s aquatic exportsin November are estimated at 650 million USD, bringing the 11-monthfigure to 6.1 billion USD and matching the total for the whole of 2012.-VNA
