Singapore (VNA) – Singapore on March 13 announced that army chief Major General Melvyn Ong will take over as Chief of Defence Force and replace Lieutenant-General Perry Lim, who will be transferred to a new position.

Besides, Brigadier General S H Gou, commander of the 6th division, will take over Melvyn Ong’s place as Chief of the Singapore Army.

Maj-Gen Melvyn Ong, 43, joined the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) in 1994. He was appointed to various significant positions in different units of SAF.

In February 2011, he was assigned as commander of the Singapore contingent deployed to provide humanitarian aid in New Zealand after a quake hit the country’s Christchurch city.-VNA
