Seventeen Vietnamese and Singaporean students studying in Singapore's contemporary arts school LASALLE College will display their works at the Fine Arts College in HCM City this weekend.

They will include fashion collections, contemporary artworks, interior decoration, four short films, Tanjong Rhu, Sandscastle, Love Laws, and National Day, and three cartoons.

Tanjong Rhu, made by Boo Junfeng, 27, a former student of the college, will compete in the Vietnamese International Film Festival in Hanoi on Oct. 17.

Boo's Sandcastle was shown at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival.

Since 2005 he has won at least 10 prizes at international film festivals in Singapore .

Organisers said Boo and Nguyen Vo Ngoc Diem, another outstanding graduate from the school will hold exchanges with students and visitors to the event. Diem is now a lecturer at the HCM City College of Theatre and Cinema.

Visitors will be invited to show off their artistic skills in a contest to design posters for the four shorts. The winner will get a free trip to Singapore with a visit to LASALLE thrown in.

Kim Jeremiejczyk, the school's marketing director, said she thinks Vietnamese youngsters are talented after seeing several of their short films on Youtube.

"At this event, we love to highlight cinema education because we want more Vietnamese students to go abroad to add their vision to international art education."

The exhibition will be held on October 23-24 at the HCM City Fine Arts College, 5 Phan Dang Luu Street , Binh Thanh District./.
