Singapore (VNA) - Singapore does not take sides with any country but adopts a principle-based and independent foreign policy driven by its own interests.

The statement was made on July 6 by Singaporean Minister in the Prime Minister's Office Chan Chun Sing, who is on an official visit to China.

Speaking to Chinese youth at a dialogue in Beijing, the minister, who is also Chairman of the People’s Action Party’s Youth Committee, Singapore does not side with any country against other countries. The city state only pursues a world order grounded on principles and openness.

He added that Singapore and China remain in a comprehensive and intensive relationship. 

This is Chan’s first trip to China as as chairman of the People's Action Party’s youth wing.

On the occasion, he met with National Development and Reform Commission Vice Chairman He Lifeng. Both sides reviewed the progress of the Chongqing Connectivity Initiative (CCI) since its launch in November 2015 and the development of China’s western region.-VNA
