Singapore and Australia recently renewed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on promoting cooperation in defence science and technology, said the Singapore’s Ministry of Defence on July 23.

Accordingly, the collaboration will cover research, technical exchange and integration. The MoU creates a framework for both countries to implement science and technology projects.

Singapore and Australia have worked together in defence technology since the 1990s. The relations have expanded with the inauguration of the Australia-Singapore Science and Technology Forum as well as the MoU on defence science and technology collaboration inked in 2005.

Last month, Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his Australian counterpart Tony Abbott signed a partnership agreement to deepen bilateral cooperation across economics, foreign affairs and defence-security as well as connect the two peoples, marking the 50th anniversary of Australia-Singapore diplomatic relations.-VNA
