Singapore helps regional countries promote nuclear safety

Singapore will provide training courses on the application of safe nuclear technologies for developing countries in the region according to a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) recently signed with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Singapore will provide training courses on the application of safe nuclear technologies for developing countries in the region according to a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) recently signed with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano and Singaporean Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Foreign Affairs Grace Fu inked the document in Singapore on January 26.

Under the MoU, the two sides will provide technical assistance for developing countries and IAEA member states including Brunei , Indonesia and Thailand to promote nuclear safety in areas such as health and electricity.

In April 2014, Singapore activated a 10-year Nuclear Safety Research and Education Programme worth up to 63 million SGD or 50 million USD, including a research initiative focusing on radiochemistry, radiobiology and risk assessment; and an education and training fund to train 100 undergraduates and graduates.-VNA
