Singapore beat Hong Kong (China) and Shanghai to the title of Best Seaport in Asia for the 27th time in this year’s Asia Freight, Logistics and Supply Chain Awards (AFLAS).

The award, hosted by Asia Cargo News, is granted to the best Asian port based on the votes of approximately 15,000 readers as well as businesses active in the sea freight sector.

The Port of Singapore was recognised for its leading performance on a range of criteria, including cost competitiveness, container shipping-friendly fee structure, and the provision of appropriate container shipping infrastructure.

Recently, Singapore commenced the implementation of Phase 3 and 4 of a project to upgrade the Pasir Panjang Terminal to a total capacity of 50 million TEUs of containers by the end of 2017.

Last year, the annual vessel arrival tonnage in Singapore Port reached 2.37 billion gross tonnes, handling a total cargo tonnage of 580.8 million.-VNA
