The Singaporean Embassy in Vietnam presented the ASEAN scholarships to nine Vietnamese pupils at ceremonies in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City on October 22.

Addressing the function in Hanoi, Singaporean Ambassador Ng Teck Hean said education is one of the highlights of Vietnam-Singapore cooperation.

The scholarships offer young ASEAN people opportunities to develop their ability and also equip them with necessary skills for their future career, he added.

The diplomat also expressed his hope that the recipients will take full advantage of the scholarships and contribute to the mutual understanding between the two young peoples.

The ASEAN scholarship programme is part of the cooperation between the Singaporean Education Ministry and ASEAN countries for pupils aged between 14-16.

The scholarships cover food, accomodation and tuition fees during their four years of studying at Singaporean State-run high schools.

After graduation, pupils with outstanding academic records will have a chance to apply for the ASEAN
