Singapore PM announces new cabinet

Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on May 18 announced the line-up for a new cabinet after the May 7 election.

Accordingly, Law Minister K. Shanmugam will take up the post of Foreign Minister to replace George Yeo.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Wong Kan Seng, National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan and Transport Minister Raymond Lim will leave the cabinet.

Both Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong, 70, and Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, 87, will leave the cabinet to retire, as announced on May 14.

The reshuffle came after the ruling People's Action Party retained its absolute majority in the parliament in the recent general election. Out of the 14 ministries, 11 will have new ministers in charge.

The new cabinet will be sworn into office on May 21./.
